I have been so busy lately with school wrapping up, carvings needing finished and a marketing business on the side. (These of course, all after responsibilities of being a husband, raising 3 boys, and church life ministry.) I am thankful to have such a full life given by God and depend on Him for wisdom in the balance. Here are a few of my carvings over the past months.

Gila Monster Wood Carving Walking Cane
I recently had the assignment of a Gila Monster and Werewolf Carving on a cane. This was a new carving for me and I had a fun time researching the lizard to learn the features for the carving and painting. Following the research I proceeded to make a quick clay mock-up of the carving to give me an idea of the any difficulties I would come across.
The carving started with a custom order of a larger cane to give me plenty of wood to work with in order to keep the structural integrity of the cane while giving a full life size carving of the Gila Monster.
The can was ultimately made out of mulberry wood and carved nicely. The center of the wood has a darker brown than the outer layers and gave the effect of a shadow under the lizard. I have attached a few photos of the process. The part that took the longest in this particular carving was the hundreds of small circular scales. Upon completion I painted the Gila Monster with patterns that I found on the internet and I painted the werewolf head black with 3 different shades of gray highlights.
More carvings can be found at http://creationcarvings.com/Gallery.html and http://handcarvedwalkingsticks.com/Gallery.html where I have galleries of some of my custom carvings.

Hand Carved Walking Stick Cane. This root cane is made from the actual tree and root of a sumac tree. I have carved the beard of this wood spirit such that it spirals all the way down the cane shaft. Green Man Carving
Here is a new carving design that I carved up. I will probably start carving a few more of these to add variety in my carvings. This style of carving is called a "green man" carving. The wood for this walking stick is cedar. This particular carving can be found at my etsy shop here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/177091684/cedar-walking-stick-cedar-staff-green?ref=shop_home_active_3

Shop
Creation Carvings has its own building for carvings to be produced in now! Getting excited about business growing I have thought a bit about craftsmanship in general. My thoughts can be found at my blog on the website: www.creationcarvings.com
I have always appreciated rendezvous and traditional crafts
created by hardworking men and women ever since my father started taking me to
rendezvous and my mother encouraged me to learn crafts while in the boy scouts.
There is not always big dollars to be made in crafts but the thought and time
that goes into a craft often gives more to the crafter than the money anyway. I
have often times had to stop while in the middle of a carving because of a
spark of thought that needed to be nurtured while listening to the reading of
Charles H. Spurgeon’s sermons. There are days when those sparks grow and burn
the pride of my heart and stir me to change for Christ’s glory. Getting out and
working on crafts whether it is pottery, writing, carving, woodworking, basket
weaving or something else can be a blessing to the soul.
Not only are crafts a blessing for those creating them but
the recipients of the crafts are also blessed. A person who receives a
handcrafted item knows that it is unique and that emotion was put into the
item. There is something about uniqueness that speaks volumes to man. This
desire for uniqueness comes from the fact that each person is unique and
created by a loving God; there are no machine produced people. Perhaps this is
also why I enjoy creating things, because my God is a creating God. By His
grace He has given each of us gifts to use to create our own works. What can
you create this year? Perhaps it is not a craft, what about a friendship? Go
create as our Father in heaven has created and may the Lord bless you richly.

Bear Walking Sticks
Bear carved walking sticks are great sticks for people who
are down to earth and enjoy the wilder side of nature. Bear sticks are for
people who are strong at heart and mind. Bear walking sticks are for people who
are solid but tender. Make a statement about yourself with a bear carved
walking stick. You can follow this link, BEAR WALKING STICKS, or click on the

The New Year is here and the time for resolutions is upon us. Getting in shape is always a “top list item” and a great way to accomplish the task is to get up and get out. Go explore your world by hiking.
In the world today we are bombarded with screens and appointments. Noise from the electronics and motors only clutter our brains. We are constantly being told what to think and what to do by commercials and advertisers.
Maybe you can make 2014 a year of balance. Find time to get away from the noise of a technologically advanced culture and find yourself in the tranquility of God’s creation. The sights and sounds of His creation will not be asking you to buy new things are indulge in more stuff. The sights and sounds of His creation will be medicine to your soul and I hope will draw you to contemplation of God and life.
Getting out of the house with a nice hike is both physically and mentally rewarding. Check out an observation made by a better blogger than myself. http://www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/fitness/exercises/outdoor-hiking-why-its-good-for-the-body-and-mind.html#b

I have stayed busy lately with the end of school wrapping up and the beginning of summer starting. My DW will be running the internet side of my business beginning in June and this will allow me more time to carve. My website www.creationcarvings.com will as a result have a lot more carvings on it. Here are a few photos of some recent carvings.
